Do I think President Rodrigo Duterte doesn’t know how listen?
Walang pakielam sa boses ng mga tao!
Cut it off.
President Rodrigo Duterte has been a good listener so I say, yes, he does listen. Some people may refute at this point of my post, tell me I’m being a bias supporter but give me a chance to explain why I think he’s a listener.
Early after he was seated as the president, he appointed people at the cabinet. Have you tried paying attention to the people he appointed there? Have you noticed how he allowed lefts, socialists, centrists, soldiers and economists to be seated there during the cabinet meeting?
Di mo gets yung point? Let me break it down to you.
Left/Socialist: The ones who ALWAYS criticize the government. Some may say they are anti-administration but sila yung walang political side, they are always for the people, their top priority is the people.
Known Lefts: DSWD Judy Taguiwalo, DAR Rafael Mariano, KADAMAY, Renato Reyes
Centrist: The ones who trust the government and is appreciative of everything the public servant or political figure or the administration contribute in the development of the country regardless of their political position and background but also criticizes the administration. Liberal, PDP, independent, etc, basta may nagawa kang maganda, naappreciate yan ng centrists, may nagawa kang mali, expect criticism from the centrists.
Known Centrists: CabSec Jun Evasco, Karen Davila, VP Leni Robredo
Soldiers: As their label, these are the soldiers and you know soldiers are for the administration and the seated leader. They are the wise men who are willing to die for the country and serve the people and the nation. Most of the time, they are the ones who stands up for their chief’s decision.
Known Soldiers: DND Delfin Lorenzana, Eduardo Año
Economist: These are the people who’s top concern is the economic growth and wealth of the country. Sila yung usually kalaban ng mga left and socialist because sometimes their decisions and the things they want to happen affects the poor and the people.
Known Economists: DOF Sonny Dominguez, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo
With all of those people seated with the president during the cabinet meeting, do you still think he doesn’t listen? If yes, please keep reading.
According to the people of the cabinet, every cabinet meeting, the president presents the issues and problems of the nation and let the cabinet members fathom, discuss and argue about it. Hinahayaan niyang maglatag sila ng mga suggestions, comments, negative reactions and demands, he makes the members argue with their thoughts and points and refute each other, that’s the time when he listens.
“Nakikinig lang ang pangulo, at the end of the day, at the end of the meeting, that’s the time he’ll make a decision.”
Weh? Parang hindi naman.
Let me state an example na madaling maitindihan. Issue is the approval of P2000 of pension hike to the SSS beneficiaries.
The lefts protested about this. Hindi pwedeng hindi ibigay ang P2000 na pension hike sa mga beneficiaries ng SSS. Nangako ang gobyerno na magkakaroon ng hike tapos hindi niyo ibibigay?
The economists refuted this protest. Mababankrupt tayo kung ibibigay yang P2000 hike na yan. Mashoshort ang funds ng SSS, yung fund life natin na nakabudget until 2042 iigsi until 2025 nalang.
If you, a normal citizen of the country would hear these two sides, parang ang hirap magdecide ‘di ba? Sige nga, make a decision and defend it at this moment.
As the president looked into this issue and listened to the sentiments of the two sides, he decided to settle on a wise solution.
Sige, let’s meet halfway. We’ll approve the hike — after he heard the sentiments of the left — but we’ll cut it to P1000 instead of P2000 — after he head the sentiments of the economists. Problem solved!
Please don’t tell me, YAN LANG? I can’t write all the proofs here, uso rin naman magresearch on your own. Anyways, I’ll give you another case that shows how President Duterte listens.
Right after the SONA 2017 of President Duterte, he went outside Batasang Pambansa to face the left wing protesters lashing out who are mostly composed of violent lefts and militants.
“Security nightmare ‘yan when the president planned to be there.”
— Chief Supt. Eleazar, QC Police Director
Despite his busy schedule, the president took time to have a dialogue with the violent protesters. HE WANTED TO HEAR THEM OUT. He asked them what were their issues, what are their sentiments and complaints, however, he didn’t receive much response from these protesters than “DUTERTE RESIGN! DIKTADOR! EJK BLA BLA.”
When he saw the people protesting over his decision to stop the peace talks, there were placards demanding him to resume peace talks with the CPP-NPA-NDF so he addressed it. He explained why he decided to ditch the peace talks, the killings and ambush of military and police personnel perpetrated by the rebels prompted him to.
There you go, he answered it for you. If you would recall the past administrations, the past presidents, sino ang nagbigay ng oras na humarap sa mga anti, lefts at protesters? Si Duterte lang. If you’ll think about it, presidente siya, he can ignore it, bakit niya pa haharapin yung mga violent protesters niya kung pwede naman niya lagpasan lang? But then can you mot appreciate this gesture na he took the risk just to listen, to explain and answer the things that bothers these protesters minds.
Now tell me again that he doesn’t listen. He does. If you think di pa rin siya marunong makinig, you might as well want to admit to yourself that you’re an irrational anti-Duterte. Open your eyes and learn to appreciate.
Lastly, I would like to stress that it’s NOT true that President Duterte ignores and appears deaf to VP Leni Robredo whenever she voices out the sentiments of the opposition, let me also clarify that just because VP Leni Robredo voices out the opposition and the left doesn’t mean na anti-administrstion siya. She’s just acting like a messenger which is just fair and reasonable.
Back to Duterte, remember when VP Leni voiced out the worry of the people with the rising number of sudden deaths and violence and her suggestion about focusing on rehabilitation after War on Drugs began? The anti-admin/Duterte might say na hindi naman siya pinakinggan but hey, what happened next? Didn’t the War on Drugs paused, didn’t the administration decided to revamp it? Have you also heard about president Duterte visiting the newly built rehabilitation centers? He listened.
You just have to have a proper dialogue with him. Voice out your concerns calmly like you’re voicing out to your teacher or boss and he will listen.
Put yourself into President Duterte’s shoes. If you are a member — let’s say of a thesis group — to who will you listen to? To someone who demands input from you and criticizes your inputs in such a manner like, “Ang bobo mo! Wala kang kwenta! Wala kang silbi, mali mali mga pinagagagawa mo.” Or to someone who demands in such a manner like, “I think mas maganda kung ganito yung gagawin mo. Mas okay kung irerevise mo ‘tong gawa mo kase may ilang mga mali dito.”
Who do you prefer?
Do you get the point I’m trying to highlight here?
